About Us

Janet Butterworth and Marina Broadley are sensitive, approachable and experienced practitioners offering both brief and longer term counselling and therapy. Having undertaken rigorous training, we hold recognised professional qualifications and have a personal commmitment and an ethical responsibility to work to specific standards of professional practice.

Our experience includes counselling within a variety of contexts including schools, colleges, specific agencies for bereavement and cancer, EAP's, PCT, NHS, and the voluntary sectors.

Due to the demand for counselling we have extended our practice. We now offer clients the opportunity to come to practices near Desford (LE9), Stoneygate and Victoria Park areas (LE2).

Why People Seek Help

People come to counselling for many different reasons and it take courage to work at understanding the issues that are impacting on your life. Without supportive therapeutic help it is often almost imposible to see the obscure ways in which we all inknowingly may be contributing to our own distress, dilemmas and life-long difficulties.

The type of counselling we offer involves sensitively helping you to explore and understand the ways in which your thoughts, feelings, perceptions and self and world-views may be influencing your life.

Talking as openly as you can, in a confidential setting, to someone trained to listen sensitively; who is impartial and will not judge you, can help you to clarify past and present experiences that make you life feel difficult.

Helping You

The overall aim of our therapeutic approach is to help you to use the support of the counselling relationship to discover new awareness and emotional understanding about why you feel as you do and what lies behind your reactions to others and to the things that happen in your life.

It is through the process of counselling that many people are able to gain more control over their lives. This can be experienced in a profound way.

Making contact is obviously the first step. We can then think about what you are looking for and take things from there. It may be that an initial session could be a really helpful way forward.
